In 1941, the government built the Basic Magnesium Plant in what was then an undeveloped desert area southeast of Las Vegas. This industrial complex became known as the “Basic” plant, which later influenced the name of the local high school and several historic landmarks.
After the war ended, the demand for magnesium dropped significantly and the plant was eventually shut down. However, the infrastructure and workforce that had been created in the area laid the foundation for the city that would later become Henderson.
Incorporation of Henderson
